The event staffing industry has given us an incredible amount of job opportunities. At Backwoods Promotions we thrive by combining our passions with our purpose, you should too! If you are beginning to wonder what this world is about, your first priority to consider is building an unforgettable resume.

Cover Letter
Your resume is the first document we look at before we set up an interview. Since a number of applicants are applying for the same gig(s), you want to make sure your resume has a cover letter that grabs our attention. Click here for cover letter examples.

What makes a great cover letter:

  • Brief/one page introduction, no more than 500 words
  • Make it easy to read without drowning it in colors or designs
  • Maintain font consistency
  • Set margins 1” or 1.5”
  • Keep it specific to company/agency
  • Be confident: showcase your skills and what makes you a great candidate
  • Quantify past achievements
  • Finish with a sincere comma sign-off and your signature: i.e., “Respectfully, Anna Smith”

Your Resume
Your resume will follow your cover letter. It should be no longer than two pages, straight to the point, detailed and well organized. Bullet points or list views are easy to read while making a great impact. You will have the opportunity to further define these points during your interview.

Switch roles and look from the perspective of the hiring agency. Would your own resume capture you? Is it well organized? Properly formatted? Are there any spelling or grammatical errors? Before you submit your resume, it’s recommended and encouraged to have a professional friend or family member proofread it before you submit.

Tips:

  • Make it pop but avoid heavy designs, we don’t want significant details to get lost in crazy colors
  • Save and submit your resume as a PDF File in a specific folder on your computer.
  • For example: Desktop > (folder) Professional Resume > (file) Anna Smith Resume
  • Pay attention to your grammar, and punctuation and avoid relying on spell check
  • Update your resume every couple months, particularly, if you are working events regularly
  • Utilize free online templates. Click here.

What to include in your resume:

Contact Info
You’ll want your header to display your personal information, such as: your legal first and last name, your phone number, an email address, what State or Province/Country you live in, and the locations you are available to work at.

Experience
Don’t worry if you do not have experience as a brand ambassador! We all start somewhere and you likely have transferable skills that may come in handy with this sort of work. As long as you have skills or experience working in similar fields, i.e. customer service, hospitality, marketing, communications, or sales, then you have what it takes. You’ll want this section to reflect the name of the company worked for, and job duties. If you currently are a brand ambassador highlight the agency, the event, and brand that you represented.

Tips

  • Order your experience chronologically
  • Avoid including every single event or promo you've worked for the past 10 years

Education
Order this section, starting with the most recent degrees or higher achievements received. Provide the name of the institution, your degree, when you graduated or when you will be graduating.

Skills
Talk yourself up! List any talents, skills, and/or proficiencies that you believe will add value to our company or how it relates to the position you are applying for.

Example: “Known for being an excellent communicator, tech-savvy, reliable, proficient in lead generation, with a go-getter attitude”

Include your References
By providing 3-5 individuals that you have a professional relationship with, provides validity and further teaches us who you are as a person and as a brand ambassador. We will be looking for the name of your references, your relationship to them, along with their contact information, such as, phone number or email address.

Example:
Anna Smith
Event Coordinator
Worked together for 3 years
1-850-250-5633 or annasmith@reference.com

Tip: It is always a nice gesture to inform your references to expect a call from your potential employer.
