Here’s the thing, you don’t just wake up one day and become an outdoors brand ambassador. Let’s throw a fun twist in the equation here, and suggest that you are, in fact, one to begin with. We think that’s the most important part to convey in offering tips and advice to applicants wanting to join our team or to our staff wanting to further their career in the outdoors industry. We value passion, and oftentimes, passion for a brand, event or industry isn’t something you can learn or teach, it’s just something you have within you.

That doesn’t mean you will never become an outdoors brand ambassador, it just means you have to look deep within to figure out exactly what skills or experience you possess that would make you an asset to this industry. Do you enjoy fishing or shooting a bow and arrow? Do you enjoy hiking or backcountry camping? What about off-roading, horseback riding or overlanding? And better yet, do you enjoy talking to other people about your passion? Do you like sharing your experiences or talking about the products you use when you’re RVing with the fam? Awesome, then you have the beginningof beinga great brand ambassador, and what we initially look for when hiring staff to work with our outdoors clients.

Here are a few ideas to help you get connected to the outdoorsy person within you:

1) Join a club - Some of the best places to meet people and learn more about an activity is by signing up for a group or club. Check out your local climbing gym, or a Facebook hiking group that can connect you with other like minded people who share the same interest. Go with a friend and ensure you meet people in a safe setting.

2) Attend a meet up - a group or club might be too much of a commitment so consider a meet-up, class or lesson to meet other people and to also learn more about the activity you are interested in. Maybe you rode a horse as a kid but need some practice? Or perhaps you want to learn about bee-keeping, gardening, or survival skills? All things that you can find a class to learn more about.

3) Get outside of your comfort zone - Dare to be different, and give something new a try! Maybe you’re accustomed to RV camping but want to try backpacking for a challenge. Well we encourage you to do so, step outside of that comfort zone and you may be surprised with what you learn and can do!

4) Tell your story - Share your stories, your pictures, your travels and adventures! We love to see what our team members get up to in their free time, and we enjoy hearing about what they enjoy about the outdoors. When you submit your application, tell us what you love about the outdoors and why you’re excited to work with outdoors companies and brands, this makes a big difference when we review applications.

5) Check out what your idols are doing - we all have inspiration, whether it's Anne Lorimor who scaled Kilimanjaro at age 89, or Jessi Combs, world's fastest woman. Chances are, your idols are a big inspiration and reason for why you do what you do. Many athletes and professionals did not start at the top, they worked hard to perfect their craft and respect in their sport. If your hero has written a book--read it! Sometimes the best inspirations come from the story behind the person you see today.

At the end of the day, passion is within you, so do the things that you enjoy and find opportunities to align yourself with your passions and interests.
