At Backwoods Promotions we love to spend time outdoors! During the summer we enjoy working at events outside with many of our outdoor and water-sport clients. In August it may feel like the summer is winding down, but in reality some of the hottest days of the year can happen during this month. According to the National Parks Association this weekend, Death Valley, California was recorded to be 130°F (54.4°C)  making it the hottest recorded temperature on Earth since 1913!

With that in mind as the summer winds down, we want to provide some quick tips on how to make yourself comfortable during your time outside!

Stay Hydrated! - We always suggest to our event staff to bring a canteen or pack a few extra water bottles in their lunch bag. Even if you are not thirsty, be sure to maintain a steady intake of water during the hours you are working (or doing anything outdoors!) The National Academy of Science & Medicines determined that at a minimum men should drink 3.7 liters of water, and women should drink 2.7 liters of water. Seems like a lot? Bring a water bottle and set water goals for yourself!

Protect Yourself from the Sun! - If you are exposed to direct sun for many hours at a time, the most important thing to staying cool is to avoid getting burned. Sunburn can not only create the feeling of being hotter than you are, it can really blister and burn your skin—even causing a fever! Make sure to wear the correct SPF at all times, even if you think you’re only indirectly in the sun. Sunglasses can protect your eyes from too much UV light, and apparel with built in SPF guards in it can protect your skin as well! If you are working an event where you can wear a hat we suggest that as well—or a neck gaiter to protect your neck and face as well. Looking for some outdoor clothing with extra protection? The Can-Am Off-Road 2021 Catalogue has some awesome apparel for anything outside!

Avoid Excessive Exhaustion! - We know that working a fast paced event can be an   exciting time! If you are outside for several hours be sure to take breaks out of the sun, and be sure to cool down as needed. Communicate with those around you if you are feeling lightheaded from the heat. Whether you are working and need a few extra moments to drink water under a tent top or on your break sit down in the shade—listen to your body. We forget to cool ourselves down because we are so excited to be out at work! This also is a good rule to follow if you are on an adventure outside-- so take a break and enjoy the view around you.

Summer can be an exciting season for all of the different events and activities you can do outside. Whether you are working at an event, or you are enjoying one of your favorite activities we encourage everyone to do so safely. We encourage our event staff to explore the world around them and these warm months are a great time to do this. Backwoods Promotions brings true enthusiasts to our clients who enjoy the industry they work in!
